The Rotten State Of Britain
Spotted this title over on Al Jahom’s Final Word. I’ve not read it yet (I’ve ordered one from Amazon) but I reckon it’s going to be pretty interesting. We already know pretty much what’s going to be in the book (unless you’ve been out of the country for the last ten years or asleep) but it’ll be interesting to see it all in one place. As someone who remembers the state the last Labour government left Great Britain in (1979) my heart sank when Labour was voted back into power back in 1997. I knew then it would end in tears, and the optimism people showed was unfounded and unrealistic.
Perhaps you’d like to check the book out yourself:

Those wacky Australians – It wouldn’t happen here in the United Kingdom
Spotted this on the BBC News site this morning.
Sydney Bridge in Sydney (well, fancy that), Australia was carpeted with grass as part of a month long festival of food, art and music. Ok, it’s “unusual” and a little offbeat but Australians all seem to be quite “up for it” when it comes to this sort of thing, and why not ?
Could you imagine it happening here ? Oh yes, Tony Blair would no doubt “pop in” for a bit of “positive PR” and they’d probably contract out the “catering” to McDonald’s and the entire event would be “sponsored by T-Mobile.” Then there’s the moaning, everybody would be up in arms and complaining about the traffic jams etc bla bla bla.
It would also take ages to “organise” like the Millennium Dome or the London Eye and wouldn’t be ready on time, and over budget.
Talking of the London Eye I once worked at a consultancy company where a “talk” was given by a new member of staff who was the project manager for the London Eye. He told us all about the project and what he/his team/the tea lady did or didn’t do and was duly asked whether the project team had received a “bonus”; the reply to which was that they had. I had to ask …. Why ? It wasn’t completed on time, after all, and it was all bit of a “cock up” all round.” I never did get an answer to that question ….
Anyway, I digress. Well done to the Australians, and good for them.
Steve
