People admired
I’m not into celebrities, generally speaking. For example you’re never going to see Victoria Beckham on this page …. However, there are some people in the public eye who I admire, and some of them I have even met.
- George Orwell – One of the world’s greatest authors. Ok, he comes across as a miserable sod, but his work provides gritty “kitchen sink” social and/or political commentary
- Eddie Izzard – Not everybody’s cup of tea but clearly intelligent as well as funny, and caring as well, he’s done much for charity. Gotta respect him for those marathons.
- Alex “Hurricane” Higgins – Ok, so the man was a drunkard, “he brought it on himself” etc …. But heck what a great snooker player. I’m a good snooker player but I’ll never be as talented as he was in a hundred years.
- Paul Watzlawick – Voice of common sense approaches to psychotherapy, wrote many great books that I enjoyed reading in my university years and since.
- Connie Francis – Such a great voice, and so much talent. Able to sing in several languages she’s endured manic depression (bipolar disorder for the politically correct), domestic violence and even rape. yet she came through it and still finds time for her fans. She’s a really lovely lady in person as well.
