20 Years of The Simpsons – TV Review

without comments

Ay, Caramba! Simpsons Celebrate 20 Years.

Not actually a program or episode entitled “20 years of The Simpsons” but just a summing up of the success of this program.  I no longer watch it all the time, in fact I rarely see it at all now, but until a few years back I used to watch it regularly.  I didn’t stop watching it for any particular reason, I guess I just found myself doing something else.

As the heading suggests The Simpsons is now 20 years old and has racked an impressive 21 seasons, and a score 9.2 out of 10 on The Internet Movie Database; that’s an impressive track record.  The first 12 seasons are available on DVD in the United Kingdom.

Is there anyone who doesn’t know about The Simpsons ?  It feature the dysfunctional Simpson family, parents Homer and Marge, the children Bart, Lisa and Maggie.  After 20 years there’s been a lot of different plots but inevitably many revolve around the relationships within the family (Bart being caught shoplifting and the change in his relationship with his parents for example.)  Then there are plots which are a “take off” of world or media events such as the episode “Who Shot Mr Burns ?”  Other characters come and go and get into various situations as well.  My favourite characters have to be Ralph Wiggum the chief of police’s son and the comic book guy.

That’s not a whole lot I can really say, you need to experience it for yourself.  As it’s on several times a day you should be able to find it easily if you have Sky or Virgin; try Sky 1 around 6pm most days.  If you like Family Guy, American Dad, Futurama or King Of The Hill you’re going to like The Simpsons.  My only criticism is of the TV schedulers themselves; some episodes seem to get repeated more than others, but we can’t blame The Simpsons for that, but we can have a go at Sky ;-)

It’s an 8/10 hit for me.  Here, have a classic Homer Simpson moment:
